Plumbing supplies in Canada: what we sell, and what we don't

We are an online home improvement store, not a plumbing wholesaler. You will not find pipe, valves, fittings or faucets here. What you will find are a few items that sit beside the plumbing in a Canadian home, and this page says plainly which ones.

In the bathroom there is a suction grab bar that holds to tile with no drilling, handy in a rental or a basement suite. In the kitchen there is peel-and-stick subway tile for the backsplash behind the sink. In the laundry room there is a washing machine drain pan that catches a leaking hose before it reaches the subfloor.

Before you start a plumbing job

Plumbing rules in Canada are set province by province, and most provinces require a permit for new drains, moved fixtures or water heater work, with a licensed plumber for some of it. Fitting a grab bar, sticking up a backsplash or sliding a pan under the washer needs no permit anywhere in the country, which is why those are the products on this page.

Why the drain pan matters in a Canadian laundry room

Many laundry rooms here are on the second floor or over a finished basement. A split inlet hose can empty a lot of water in a few minutes, and it goes straight through the subfloor into the ceiling below. A pan under the machine holds the first few litres and gives you time to reach the shutoff. In winter, when a frozen supply line lets go, that minute is worth a lot.

Delivery across Canada

Orders over $90 ship free anywhere in Canada. Under that it is a flat $25. We hand your order to the carrier within 2 working days and most parcels arrive within 7 working days of dispatch, longer for the North and for remote postal codes. Express delivery is $25 if you need it sooner. International delivery is available too.

Need something you cannot see here?

Email us. If it is a plumbing part we cannot supply, we will say so right away instead of leaving you waiting. If it is close to something we stock, we will tell you what we can do.

What we actually stock today

Three items, each one next to the plumbing rather than part of it: the suction grab bar, the peel-and-stick backsplash tile and the washing machine drain pan. Email theteam@myhomeimprovement.co for anything else and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it.

Plumbing: your questions

Do you sell plumbing pipe, fittings or faucets in Canada?

No. We are an online home improvement store, not a plumbing wholesaler. The items we carry near the plumbing are a suction grab bar, peel-and-stick backsplash tile and a drain pan for the washing machine. For pipe and faucets, a plumbing supply house or your plumber is the right place.

Do I need a permit for plumbing work in Canada?

It depends on the province, but most require a permit for new drains, moved fixtures and water heater work, and a licensed plumber for some of it. Nothing on this page touches the supply or the drains, so a grab bar, a backsplash or a drain pan needs no permit anywhere in the country.

Will the suction grab bar work in a rental or a basement suite?

Yes. It holds to smooth tile or glass with suction cups and leaves no holes, so there is nothing to patch when you move out. Keep the cups off grout lines, check them every few weeks, and use the bar for balance rather than to carry your full weight.

Can peel-and-stick backsplash tile handle a Canadian winter kitchen?

Indoors, yes. It is made for kitchens and copes with normal cooking heat, though keep it 4 inches from a gas burner. The adhesive wants a clean, dry, room-temperature wall, so do not fit it in an unheated space or right after the wall has been washed.

Why put a drain pan under a washer on the second floor?

A split inlet hose empties a surprising amount of water in a few minutes, and on an upper floor it goes straight through the subfloor into the ceiling below. The pan holds the first few litres and gives you time to reach the shutoff. It matters most in winter, when a frozen line lets go.

How much is shipping across Canada?

Orders over $90 ship free anywhere in Canada. Below that it is a flat $25, and express delivery is $25. We hand parcels to the carrier within 2 working days and most arrive within 7 working days of dispatch, longer for the North and remote postal codes. International delivery is available too.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Email us with your order number and a photo. Your province's consumer protection law entitles you to a repair, a replacement or a refund depending on the fault, and we cover the return shipping. Our complaints handling policy explains the steps, and your provincial consumer protection office is there if you are not satisfied.
